Today we woke up early and had our discussion group meeting for the readings we did. It went pretty well and our instructor who sat in on my group seemed to enjoy the points we talked about. Anywho, after a while of that we dispersed and I went back to my room to relax for a little while before my studio group left to go meet up. Today featured our first experience with rain!!! It was pretty great, actually, because it was very pretty and the weather cooled off a little bit which was nice. It was also pretty interesting to see how the Italian culture reacted to the weather (as expected, the city slowed to a crawl and there was very little action going on in Piazza Arringo).
While we waited in the Piazza I stopped at Pizza One Way and got my new favorite kind: sausage and sliced potato on white pizza…YUM! Once we met up with Jessica she took us to her apartment, which was awesome! She says it was built sometime between 400 and 600, and it sure looked it. The entry was a fantastic covered street right off of a back alley, and it looked like something you would see in a horror movie or zombie video game. The stairs we took up were visibly worn down after many years of use, and slanted down towards the bottom, making the ascent quite tricky (we don’t know how anyone would use them drunk...).
Once we got up to her apartment, we met her roommates and looked around for a little bit before getting to work. It was an extremely productive day today, we got nearly everything set and the 3D model is nearly complete, meaning that after our desk crits tomorrow, it is final production mode! We worked for around 7 or 8 hours, and once we were done (tapped out) we closed up shop and prepared the apartment for the food party she was throwing that night (the Italians prepared while we watched Fairly Odd Parents and Spongebob in Italian…WOOOO!!!).
Once everyone started to arrive, they brought the food out; absolutely unbelievable! There were about 4 different kinds of small sandwich things, one was stuffed with cheese and spinach, one with ham and cheese, and two made with egg and filled with various veggies and cheeses (like a mini omelet). Plus they had prosciutto-wrapped breadsticks, a shrimp, barley, and tomato dish, as well as drinks (Fanta for me!). And the best part was, that was just the appetizer! After we ate that and talked for a while, they brought out a fantastic spaghetti dish, made with some sort of sauce that was a kind of mix between red and white sauces, with bacon and some spices mixed in…SO GOOD!!!!! So of course, the next activity was group singing! They showed a great affinity for American rock, and we enjoyed some Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and my favorite, Yellow Submarine by the Beatles (they all knew it so it was a really fantastic moment). So after a good bit of singing and clowning around, we left the apartment full and happy! After the sad walk home, we went to bed to prepare for another long day tomorrow!!
