Day 11 (4/1/11)

Today we woke up bright and early and left for the studio, where we were planning on building a model as a group until it was our turn to meet with the professors. It was actually a lot of fun building the site model together, and I ended up getting some plans together to show the teachers as well, so it was a very productive morning! When we met with them, it did not go so well, mostly because of our Italian professor’s affinity for classical Italian architecture. Our issue is the fact that the building we are retrofitting failed miserably (75% built, 25% still standing) and it really was kinda lame. But according to her it is one of the most influential pieces of architecture ever, which is hard for us to imagine. So they basically told us to rebuild the whole thing (since that worked so well the first time?) and go from there. So that was whatever, I just wanna relax and enjoy myself so I am not stressing haha.
After our meeting we went out for lunch and got a 50 cm. pizza for the four of us to split, and relaxed for a while in Piazza de Popolo. We even met a few other American students who are here studying for a little while, so some English was a pretty great change of pace. Next we got to go right back to studio where we sat down and continued to discuss our ideas. Jessica randomly made a pretty great diagram and we took that and ran (we figure if the idea is Italian-born, then the Italian professors should love it! Right?). So we discussed that and made some more general decisions for a good bit of time before quickly finishing our site model.
Once we finished there we all walked back to the hotel where Joe, Richard and I went for a run. It is pretty great running here, the weather is very nice, the hills make for a great extra workout and the sidewalk keeps you constantly focused so you don’t trip on cobblestone. Plus the added adrenaline rush of avoiding cars and people on many back streets keeps it interesting. After we finished we showered and walked across the street to Mr. OK, and got pizzas to split.
We decided to get a vegetarian pizza and a couple-cheese pizza since it was lent (meh…) and took those back home. To my great surprise, the final two vegetables that I despise were fantastic here in Italy. Our pizza had the biggest, juiciest and most delicious mushrooms that I have ever had! There were also cherry tomatoes on it that may have been the most flavorful tomatoes that I have had. We sat in our room and watched some great Italian television while we ate, before watching the office. Overall, this might have been the best meal of pizza that I have ever had.
After we finished that, we goofed around for a little while before watching the most recent episode of the office and heading to bed. Beach tomorrow!!!
